Michelle Masson offers strategic advice on organizational
effectiveness. Her work with Reid Eddison clients begins with articulating the strategy and operating plan
framework and then creating simple planning processes that link all individual performance to the business needs.
Growing companies need to manage dynamically with as little paper and formality as possible. A street-smart
approach that aims swiftly at targets and provides a practical system for business performance monitoring will
further success. Red tape will tie the hands of the entrepreneur.
Michelle is innovative in building teams and proposing people programs that retain, reward and motivate top
talent in the small workplace. She helps develop leaders internally through coaching programs and team workshops.
Prior to joining Reid Eddison, Michelle headed the HR team at DY4 Systems Inc., an established computer
board design firm. Engineering an initiative that drew new life into the employer image, Michelle's program
reduced hiring turnaround time as the company staffed upwards of 150 positions in one fiscal year.
In a marketplace where employee churn often exceeded 25 percent, this internal branding initiative also
helped reduce DY4's turnover rate to 9 percent, which translated to a $1 million bottom-line advantage.
At AMITA Corporation, an Ottawa-based IT consulting firm, Michelle headed the corporate services division.
She quickly identified the company's competitive advantage and built a strategic internal services infrastructure
to support the company's consulting operations. As part of AMITA's corporate leadership team, she designed and
implemented a competency-based broadband pay system, and a unique performance management system that underpinned
the reward structure.
As HR Manager for iStar Internet/PSI Net, a pioneering Internet company, Michelle optimized the employee programs
for attracting and retaining hot skills in the industry. She built a professional services team that was ultimately
acquired by Ericsson, and she played a key role in the merger of iStar and PSI Net.
Over the course of a decade with Fulcrum Technologies Inc., Michelle designed, implemented and refined a full
suite of employee programs to create a supportive team environment driven by a set of key guiding principles.
During this period, Fulcrum grew to be the acknowledged leader in full-text information retrieval software, with
operations throughout North America, Europe and the Pacific Rim. Michelle developed the people and team strategies
that helped this software startup grow from Founder team to over 300 people, positioning it for acquisition by
PC Docs/Hummingbird.
Michelle earned her Certified Human Resources Professional designation at the University of Toronto.
She currently teaches sections of the professional studies curriculum under the Human Resources Management
program at Carleton University.
Michelle volunteers as the Vice President of Human Resources for the Ottawa Chapter of Junior Achievement
and she plays an advisory role to the Community Foundation of Ottawa. In the past, Michelle also served on
the board of the Ottawa Human Resources Professionals Association (OHRPA) and the local chapter of the World
at Work association.
